The Falconets, Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, have showcased their prowess by defeating Australia’s U20 team 2-1 in a friendly match held in Colombia.
This victory, along with a 4-3 win in a penalty shootout, has boosted their confidence ahead of the upcoming 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The team’s impressive performance has been praised by officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), who believe that the Falconets are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
The NFF has lined up additional friendly matches to further enhance the team’s readiness for the World Cup.
Nigeria is grouped with Germany, Venezuela, and Korea Republic in Group D of the tournament.
Their opening match against Korea Republic is scheduled for September 2, followed by matches against Germany and Venezuela.
The 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, hosted by Colombia, marks the third time Colombia has hosted a FIFA tournament and the first time they have hosted a women’s tournament.
Spain, the defending champions, will be looking to retain their title.
