The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has charged the Nigerian athletes as they depart to represent the country at the 13th African Games currently being held in Ghana. The charge came on March 5th as the team was set to depart for Accra from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The African Games is a prestigious multi-sport event held every four years, featuring competition across dozens of sports by athletes from nations across the African continent. It is considered the premier sporting showcase for Africa.

The minister, who spoke on board the aircraft, also urged the athletes to put in a strong outing even though some may be representing the country at this level for the first time. Senator Enoh called on the team to build on the previous performance of Team Nigeria at the last All African Games in 2019. The 12th edition held in Rabat saw the team finish second with 46 gold medals, 33 silver medals, and 48 bronze medals.
“Let me remind you that you carry the hopes and aspirations of the entire country. As a government, the current administration will encourage you to excel without any hindrance,” Senator Enoh stated. “We would love to see Nigeria top the medal table this time around.”
Senator Enoh has also promised the prompt payment of allowances due to the athletes and has insisted no athlete will be shortchanged.
