Japan name squad to confront Falcons at Olympics

The Nadeshiko become the first side from group C that houses Spain, Nigeria and Brazil to reveal it’s squad for the upcoming women’s football tournament.

Japan Head Coach, Futoshi Ikeda, announced an 18-member squad to represent the country at this year’s Olympics in Paris.

Retained most of the faces that participated at the World Cup showpiece in Australia and New Zealand, Jun Edo and Hikaru Naomoto remain long-term absentees.

The 2011 World Champions meet Super Falcons of Nigeria in their final group game on 31st July, 2024.

Defenders: Saki Kumagai, Moeka Minami (Roma), Risa Shimizu (West Ham), Hikaru Kitagawa (INAC Kobe Leonessa), Hana Takahashi (Urawa Reds), Toko Koga (Feyenoord)

Midfielders: Kiko Seike (Urawa Reds), Yui Hasegawa (Manchester City), Honoka Hayashi (West Ham), Fuka Nagano (Liverpool), Hinata Miyazawa (Manchester United), Aoba Fujino (Tokyo Verdy Beleza), Momoko Tanikawa (Rosengard)
