Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, have secured their spot in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
The girls sealed their qualification with a decisive 2-0 victory over Liberia in the second leg of the qualifiers held in Abuja. Harmony Chidi stepped up as the star player, scoring both goals and solidifying their win.
This victory adds to their 4-1 win on Liberian soil, bringing the aggregate score to a commanding 6-1 in favor of Nigeria. The Flamingos showcased their strength and determination throughout the qualifiers.

Established in 2008 to nurture young female talent, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup has seen significant growth. Notably, the tournament will transition from a biennial event to an annual competition starting next year in Morocco.
Flamingos’ Track Record
The Flamingos boast six appearances in the World Cup since its inception. Their most successful run was a third-place finish at the last edition. This year, they aim to bring home the trophy and fly the Nigerian colors high.
