Yemisi Ogunleye of Germany has clinched a dramatic gold medal in the women’s shot put at the Paris Olympics. With a final-round throw of 20.00 meters, she edged out New Zealand’s Maddison-Lee Wesche, who had taken the lead with a personal best of 19.86 meters in the fifth round.
Ogunleye’s victory marks a significant achievement in her career, following a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships earlier this year and a bronze at the European Championships.
The competition was fierce, with China’s Song Jiayuan securing the bronze medal with a throw of 19.32 meters. The United States faced disappointment, as Jaida Ross finished fourth, while Raven Saunders failed to qualify for the final.
Reigning Olympic champion Gong Lijiao of China, a three-time Olympic medalist, finished in fifth place.
This thrilling competition showcased the incredible talent and determination of these world-class athletes.
