The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Rwanda in their second Group B match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Nigeria created numerous opportunities to score, but failed to break down a resilient Rwandan defense, leaving the game at 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Coach Austin Egueavon opted to stick with the same defensive setup that worked in previous games, but made a notable midfield change by starting Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in place of Alex Iwobi.
In attack, Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze were entrusted with leading the offensive charge, but the trio struggled to convert their chances.
As the match progressed and Nigeria continued to struggle in front of goal, Egueavon introduced star striker Victor Osimhen at the start of the second half, replacing Boniface.
Samuel Chukwueze also made way for Moses Simon, in an effort to add more attacking firepower. However, the changes failed to yield the desired breakthrough.
A last-minute push saw Ademola Lookman make way for Taiwo Awoniyi in stoppage time, but Rwanda’s defense remained solid, holding on for a vital point.
Despite the draw, Nigeria remains atop Group B with 4 points, while Rwanda follows with 2 points.
