Gernot Rohr, the former coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has spoken out in praise of the newly appointed head coach, Bruno Labbadia.
In an interview with Brila FM radio, Rohr expressed his confidence in Labbadia’s abilities and offered well wishes for his future with the team.
“Bruno Labbadia is a very good coach,” Rohr said. “Congrats to the Super Eagles for finding such a coach.”
Highlighting Labbadia’s extensive experience in the Bundesliga, Rohr acknowledged the adjustment required for international football but expressed optimism about Labbadia’s capacity to adapt.
“He has a lot of experience from Bundesliga, this is the first that is coming now in the national team but he will quickly find his way and the kind of work which is a little bit different to adapt himself to the environment in Nigeria,” Rohr explained.
The former coach also drew a parallel between himself and Labbadia, both having their first matches with the Super Eagles in Uyo.
“He will have his first match in Uyo against Benin Republic, we will meet very soon. Like me also my first match was in Uyo in 2016 and it was a very nice place,” Rohr stated.
Looking ahead to their upcoming encounter in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Rohr expressed his enthusiasm for Labbadia’s experience with the Super Eagles.
“We are happy to see him to this wonderful team who has the best players all over West Africa so it will be a wonderful match,” Rohr concluded.
This match, taking place in Uyo next week, will see Labbadia and Rohr face off as Nigeria takes on Benin, coached by Rohr. The encounter adds an interesting layer to the opening game of the qualifiers, with both coaches undoubtedly eager to prove themselves.
