Ekiti United’s hopes of staying in the Nigeria National League (NNL) were dashed after a goalless draw against Abia Comets in their final match of the season.

Despite their efforts, the point wasn’t enough to escape relegation. Ekiti United finished the season in 11th place with only 24 points from 22 games. Their defensive frailties were evident, conceding 32 goals throughout the campaign.

Following a heavy defeat to Smart City FC (5-0), the club opted for a change in management, replacing Kehinde Anjorin with Coach Deji Ayeni. Additionally, the entire coaching crew was sacked in an attempt to salvage the season. Unfortunately, these efforts proved unsuccessful.

The management of Ekiti United will now face the difficult task of deciding the team’s future and planning for a return to the NNL.

A focus on improvement across all aspects of the team will be crucial to avoid a repeat of this season’s struggles.
