Ahmed Yusuf, the President of DollyP Sport Academy, along with the academy’s sporting director, Akeem Latifu, and a team of scouts led by Villasenor Lopez Israel, called on governments to establish football academies to nurture young talents and cultivate future sports stars.
Yusuf noted that the academy has scouted for talents in various regions of Kwara State, selecting youth through competitions held among secondary schools.
He emphasized that the academy provides support in meals, accommodation, sports materials, sports development, and education, while also seeking parental consent for the participation of young athletes in sports activities.
Akeem Latifu highlighted the transformative power of sports, particularly football, in lifting Nigerian families out of poverty.
He stressed that football has the potential to drive economic growth, citing examples from Lagos State where football has had a significant impact on the economy.
The academy collaborates with international sports development agencies to grow football in Kwara State, with plans to expand its reach across Nigeria and Africa.
The aim is to create more success stories like Taiwo Awoniyi, leveraging football to provide opportunities for young talents from Kwara State.
Villasenor Lopez Israel, from Grupo Orlegi, Mexico, emphasized the importance of mentality in young talents, stating that mental strength is crucial for success in adapting to new environments, football systems, and cultures.
He expressed the scouts’ commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of young Nigerian footballers, noting the country’s strong players with great potential.
