African Games: Uganda held by neighbors in opener

The Uganda U-20 Women’s National team, Queen Cranes, opened their African Games campaign with a 1-1 all draw against regional neighbors Tanzania at Cape Coast stadium on Saturday evening.

It was a frustrating result for the debutants who surrendered lead to opponents towards the final stages of the contest.

A late equalizer from Aisha Mnunka in the 89th minute levelled the scoreline, denying Uganda maximum points.

Initially, winger Margaret Kunihira had netted Uganda’s sole goal in the first stanza.

In the final game of the day, hosts Ghana beat Ethiopia 1-0, thanks to Comfort Owusu’s second half strike.

Victory saw the Black Princesses move to top of group A with 3 points while Uganda, and Tanzania are tied on one point each.

Ethiopia, are rock-bottom with zero points after defeat to the West Africans.
