Heartland Queens congratulate new sports commissioner, Onyeocha

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Heartland Queens Football Club of Owerri enjoin millions of sports enthusiasts in the state to warmly congratulate the newly appointed and sworn in Commissioner for Youths & Sports Development, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha (Onowu).

The former Transition Committee Chairman of Orlu was among the 24 Commissioners sworn in on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the New Executive Council Chamber, Government House Owerri.

The former Chief Security of Orlu with other Commissioners and Special Advisers will constitute members of the new expanded Executive Council as the second term of His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodinma serves off the ground with full gear.

Onyeocha’s appointment is coming at an auspicious time in the history of the topflights and believes are afoot in the sports circle that he will deploy his administrative acumen and savvy to ensure the Owerri side achieve her landmark and laudable dreams of winning the league crown in first attempt at the Super Six playoffs.

Heartland Queens qualified for the NWFL Premiership Super Six for the very first time in its history at the conclusion of the 2023/24 NWFL Premiership regular season.

The Owerri mainstreams finished the campaign on the third spot of the eight-team Group A log behind Watersmeet side, Confluence Queens and Solid Minerals City side, Nasarawa Amazons.

The Owerri landladies will now vie for the league title and opportunity to earn a ticket to represent the country at the CAF Women’s Champions League together with the other three-team qualifiers, Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens and Edo Queens on yet to be announced date and venue.
