Nigeria cannot win the 2023 AFCON, says Super Eagles Former Striker

By Isiaq Ibrahim

Brown Ideye, the former Super Eagles striker, said on Thursday, January 11th, 2024, that the team can’t win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations was supposed to be held in 2023 but was later postponed by the CAF to kick off on 13th January 2024 at Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The former striker makes it known that the team has good players in camp, but they need more team management and team control.

“We are still building a team because we don’t have a team that can win the AFCON,” he said.

He further exclaimed that there was no light at the end of the tunnel for the Super Eagles to win the AFCON. “It is not possible!” Because “we don’t have what it takes to win the tournament.”

Recall that the Super Eagles won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in South Africa. As a sequel to their victory in the year, Ideye advises the team players and the managers to set a day for discussion with the Eagles’ Captain, Ahmad Musa, to deliberate on how to emerge as the victor in the tournament.

“Super Eagles need Musa and Omeruo to tell them how we conquered Africa in 2013, the discipline, the sacrifices, and how we fought and tasked ourselves when everyone had given up,” he asserted.
