Rovers of Calabar kicked off their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) qualification journey with a significant 1-0 win against Stormers FC of Abeokuta at The U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River.
In a crucial victory cheered on by Honorable Commissioner for Sports Hon. Agnes Atsu, Commissioner of Finance Mike Odere, and Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly Elvert Ayambem, 17-year-old goalkeeper Clinton Ezekiel made his league debut.
Clinton, who joined the state-owned football club after catching the eye of the technical crew during a preseason friendly, is now in contention for the top spot as Rovers aim for promotion.
Expressing his gratitude, Clinton told NAIRASPORTS, “I am thankful for the opportunity to start this match. It was a tough game against a team that qualified for the NNL Super 8 last season. I’m super excited and grateful for my family members who watched me play today.”
Next up, Rovers face 1472 at The Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Sunday at 2 pm.
