As the Nigeria Premier Football League enters Matchday six, football fans are in for a treat with a lineup of exciting midweek matches across the nation.

While the game between Doma United and Bendel Insurance has been postponed due to logistics issues, the spotlight falls on several intriguing fixtures.

The highlight of the matchday is undoubtedly the Southwest derby between Remo Stars and Shooting Stars, set to take place in Ikenne.

Gbenga Ogunbote’s Shooting Stars are riding high after a 3-1 victory over Doma United, placing them second in the league.

Remo Stars have an impressive record against their southwest rivals, having never lost to the Oluyole warriors in four meetings. With Remo Stars currently sitting third on the table, a victory could propel them to the top, depending on other results.

Akwa United is eager to secure their first win of the season when they host Gombe United at The Eket Township Stadium. After a stern warning from the management, Fatai Osho’s side earned a crucial away point against Bendel Insurance but has yet to score at home. A win against Gombe United would lift them from the bottom of the standings.

Lobi Stars, whose unbeaten start was recently halted by Rivers United, aim to get back on track as they face table-toppers Rangers International. Rangers are on an impressive run, but Lobi has been formidable at home.

Enyimba makes their return to the league after a two-week absence with a trip to Minna to face Niger Tornadoes, who are seeking to bounce back after a controversial loss to Sporting Lagos in the previous matchday.

In Owerri, Heartland faces former League Champions Rivers United, giving them hope of securing all three points due to Rivers United’s poor away record.

Sporting Lagos, fresh from ending their winless streak, travels to Illorin to face Kwara United with newfound confidence.

In other fixtures, Kano Pillars aim for redemption as they host Bayelsa United, Katsina United faces Plateau United in Jos, and Edith Agoye’s team welcomes Abia Warriors in Akure. Football enthusiasts can expect a thrilling Matchday 6 with a blend of fierce rivalries and opportunities for teams to turn their fortunes around.
