On Thursday, the Super Eagles faced another setback as it was announced that Real Sociedad striker, Sadiq Umar, will be sidelined for three weeks due to a knee injury sustained during the team’s 2-0 loss to Guinea on Monday.
The absence of the lanky striker leaves Jose Peseiro with a limited frontline, relying on Victor Osimhen as the only natural striker, especially after Victor Boniface was ruled out of the competition due to a groin injury.
Terem Moffi is expected to replace Boniface, and according to reports, Paul Onuachu has been called upon to fill the void left by Sadiq Umar. Nigeria is also without Taiwo Awoniyi, who was ruled out of the competition.
Kelechi Iheanacho and Terem Moffi are anticipated to join the rest of the squad in Abidjan on Saturday, ready to contribute to the team’s effort against the host, Cote d’Ivoire, in the second group game of the competition.
