Toma F.C wins 2023 Independent Cup

The 2023 Independent Cup came to an end, with Toma FC, of Agage emerging Champions.

Toma FC saw off stiff challenge from Senna F.C to lift the trophy in a closely contested final played on Sunday.

The Agege based side defeated their counterparts from Ipaja 5-4 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

By emerging Champions, Toma FC walked away with the prestigious trophy and a grand prize of three hundred and fifty thousand naira.

Runners up, Senna FC were awarded a sum of two hundred thousand naira for their efforts, while third placed side MS success went home with hundred thousand naira.

A total of 32 teams participated in the four-week long football competition held in Ipaja area of Lagos State.

The organizer, Sesan Ogunleye said he is satisfied with the outcome of the tournament, and promised the next edition will be bigger.

“I am very satisfied with the quality of play we witnessed from every team, football is at the grassroots, I would say we are satisfied and we got what we were looking “

“Football at the grassroots level is essential for nurturing talent and promoting the sport. That’s what we are trying to do with the competition”.

The Independent Cup has produced several top players, including Mjällby AIF of Sweden forward Silas Nwankwo.
