Bayelsa United forward, Robert Mizo, bids farewell to his club as he completes his move to Al Hilal SC of Libya on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Despite Bayelsa United’s struggles this season, Mizo, who has been in prolific form, scored ten goals, trailing just one behind Sikiru Alimi of Remo Stars. Concluding the 2023 football calendar with 19 goals, Mizo ranked as the 9th top scorer from Nigeria globally.
In a heartfelt letter posted on his official handle, Mizo expressed gratitude to Bayelsa United, acknowledging the club’s role in his career development. He thanked everyone who contributed to his journey, saying, “I want to sincerely appreciate Bayelsa United for giving me the platform to be part of the club, which is the bedrock of my career and development. I thank everyone who has contributed to my career from the beginning to this moment.”
The 23-year-old striker also extended appreciation to his teammates and coaching staff, emphasizing their support, advice, and guidance. Mizo, set to join the Libyan Premier League, thanked fans, media houses, blogs, social media influencers, sports analysts, and the Bayelsa Twitter community for their unwavering support. He said, “And to all my fans both home and abroad, I thank you for your support and being part of my story. Special appreciation to all the media houses, blogs, social media influencers, sports analysts, and as well Bayelsa Twitter community for all your support.”
Despite Bayelsa United’s current struggle, sitting 20th on the Nigeria Professional Football League table, Mizo, named the Players of the Year, leaves with gratitude for the numerous awards and nominations, acknowledging organizations such as NPFL Undiluted Awards, League Bloggers Awards, Sports Light Hub, Nigeria Report Football, among others.
Bayelsa United now faces the challenge of maintaining their league status after losing their highest goal-scorer.
