African Games: Ghana tame rivals Nigeria to claim gold

Hosts, Ghana beat holders Nigeria 2-1 to claim gold at the Women’s football final played on Thursday night at Cape Coast Stadium.

Optimistic to retain the gold they won five years ago in Morocco, the Falconets’ dream was shattered by the hosts.

Edeh Loveth Nijdeka put Nigeria ahead first before Black princesses epic comeback in the second stanza.

With 13 minutes to final whistle, Tracy Twum levelled the matters, forcing the tie to extra time.

In the 98th minute, red-hot Mukarama Abdulai pulled off a winner for the hosts with a thunderous strike.

A repeat of last year’s maiden WAFU B women’s final, once again Ghana reigned supreme over their arch-rivals.

Danjuma’s side conclude the 13th edition of the African Games with silver in the bag.
