African Games: Uganda wins Bronze at maiden tournament

Ambrose Ahimbisibwe

Uganda U-20 Women’s National team, Queen Cranes, will head back home in bouyant mood after claiming a silverware at their first ever appearance of the African Games on Thursday night.

The East African giants overcame fellow counterparts from Senegal in the third play off to bag bronze at the continental event in Ghana.

With no goal to separate the two sides in regulation time, Uganda won 6-5 in post penalties.

Nearly stormed finals, their efforts fall short to heavyweights Nigeria in the semis.

The triumph also marks first success for head coach Sherly Botes with any Ugandan side.

Appointed last year, the South Africa international is starting to deliver four months after her arrival to the Pearl of Africa.
