Heartland Queens of Owerri embarked on their journey to clinch victory in the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament with a triumphant 2-1 win over Royal Queens at the University of Benin Sports Center in Benin on Tuesday.
Lucky Mary, the standout player of the match, secured a goal that enabled the Owerri Landladies to come from behind and secure the win. Heartland Queens asserted their dominance right from the kick-off, but a lapse in concentration following a set piece taken by Royal Queens saw them conceding a goal.
Despite this initial setback, the goal served as a rallying point for the Owerri Landladies, as they swiftly leveled the score just three minutes after falling behind.
Heartland Queens’ domination was rewarded with a second goal, ultimately becoming the game-winner in added minutes of the first half.
Next up, Heartland Queens will face Fortress Ladies on Wednesday, October 25th, at 2:00 pm at The University of Benin Sports Complex.
