Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise has been left out of France’s 25-man squad for the European Championship in Germany, as announced by head coach Didier Deschamps.
Olise, who has been in red-hot form for Crystal Palace this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists in 18 matches for the London club, has surprisingly been omitted. Despite his stellar performance, the 22-year-old has not secured a spot in the French team.

This decision by Deschamps opens the door for Olise to potentially represent Nigeria. Born to a Nigerian father and a French-Algerian mother, Olise is eligible to play for the Super Eagles. Reports indicate that he was named in Nigeria’s standby list for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Lesotho.
France has been placed in Group D for the Euros, alongside the Netherlands, Poland, and Austria. Les Bleus will be relying on Kylian Mbappe to lead them to their first European Championship title since 2000.
For Nigeria, Olise’s exclusion from the French squad could be a significant opportunity. The Super Eagles would benefit greatly from his skill and form as they continue their quest for international success.
