Ikorodu City explain managerial uncertainty amidst Struggles

Daniel Oyekan

Ikorodu City Football Club is currently facing a challenging period, both on and off the field. The team has been struggling to find consistent form in the league, and the recent resignation of head coach Bright Ozebagbe has added to the uncertainty surrounding the club’s future.

In an exclusive interview on Yabatech Radio, the club’s media, Samuel Bamisebi, provided updates on the club’s situation.

He confirmed that the club is still searching for a new manager to replace Ozebagbe, and there is no guarantee that a new appointment will be made before their upcoming match against Bendel Insurance.

“The information is not available at the moment. We don’t know what we’ll see over the weekend; we could possibly see an interim manager,” Bamisebi said.

Bamisebi also clarified the relationship between Ikorodu City and Ikorodu United, stating that they are two separate entities. Ikorodu United is no longer in existence, while Ikorodu City is a relatively new club.

“Ikorodu United is different from Ikorodu City. We have no business with each other. One is no longer in existence, while the other is just three years old, which is Ikorodu City,” Bamisebi explained.

Regarding the recent transfer of Sulaimon Babatunde to Al Mokawloon Arab Contractors Sporting Club in Egypt, Bamisebi explained that the funds generated from the transfer will be reinvested into the club to strengthen the team and develop more talent.

“Transfers in Nigeria are not as straightforward as they are in Europe,” Bamisebi said.

“It involves many processes; you might not see that money immediately. But when it comes, it will be used to strengthen the club and keep building.”

Despite the club’s struggles, Bamisebi called for patience from the fans, emphasizing that the team is still a work in progress. The primary goal for the season is to remain in the league.

“The fans are right to act the way they are, but we just plead with them to be patient,” Bamisebi said.

“You can’t expect us to kick the ground running. This is a team that is just playing in the league and currently the youngest team in the league. We’re still a title contender—things can definitely turn around.”
