NWFL: Heartland Queens captaincy is a clarion call – Apkata reveals

Heartland Queens football club of Owerri has named Kate Ekaete Apkata the new captain of the club ahead of the 2023/2024 NWFL season while Chimebere Opara was named the vice captain of the team. 

Apkata will now replace Oluoma Onwere Sharon who has captained the Owerri Landladies for two seasons. 

Apkata is one of the most experienced player of the team and has shown team spirit and good leadership qualities as a team mate which has earned her the captain band. 

Speaking to Heartland Queens media immediately after her appointment, Apkata said

“I’m indeed shocked to receive this honour, I wasn’t expecting to be named captain because it’s a scarce honour so i really appreciate the Heartland Queens Management and coaching crew for finding me worthy to put on Heartland Queens captain band. 

“To whom much is giving, much is expected and i want to assure you that we will deliver. 

“And to my team mates, don’t forget that this mantle is a clarion call for all us, and together we can do it. This role entails service to you, so we are here to serve and to do that, i will need the cooperation of team mate and with God on our side, the league cup is within reach” Apkata concluded. 

The former skipper Oluoma Onwere  who handed the mantle of leadership to her said,

“It’s been a amazing two seasons leading the team but so far it’s been a beautiful experience with it’s ups and downs. 

“I’m happy that i had the opportunity to serve and as it is my maiden experience, the experience was worth it. 

“I will use this opportunity to encourage my team mates to also give to the new leadership maximum cooperation so that together as a family, we will wearher the storm.” Onwere concluded.
