Real Madrid and Germany international Antonio Rüdiger has responded to criticism from journalist Julian Reichelt, who wrote on X, formerly Twitter, accusing Rüdiger of promoting an Islamic statute with his gesture, and the Protection of the Constitution calls the gesture the “IS Finger”.
Antonio Rüdiger clarified that the picture of him praying on a prayer mat, pointing the index finger of his right hand towards the sky, was a greeting for Ramadan.

In response to the post, he said, “To mark the beginning of Ramadan, I published a post on Instagram. This post has already been public for 13 days and has reached several million followers without any criticism from anyone. But in recent days, the photo has been used by individuals to make unfounded accusations. The gesture I used is called the tawheed finger. In Islam, this is considered a symbol of the unity and uniqueness of God.”
Antonio Rüdiger will be looking to get back in action for Real Madrid after playing 180 minutes for Germany during the international break.
