National Youth Games: Southwest Zonal Elimination Playoffs set to Kick-off in Osun

As the excitement builds for the 2024 National Youth Games, the Southwest Zonal Elimination Playoffs are set to commence in Osogbo, Osun State.

Starting on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, hundreds of young athletes will gather from across the Southwest region to compete for a chance to represent their states at the National Youth Games, which will take place from September 10th to 20th in Asaba, Delta State.

The Southwest Zonal Elimination Playoffs, which run from August 29th to 31st, will see athletes from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, and the host state, Osun, battling it out in a variety of sports including football, basketball, handball, volleyball, hockey, baseball/softball, beach volleyball, and rugby, among others.

Participants will begin arriving in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 28th, as the state capital prepares to host athletes, coaches, and sports administrators. The Director of Coaching and Training at the Osun State Sports Council, Mr Ademola Daini, expressed his confidence in the state’s readiness to host the event and extend warm hospitality to all attendees.

“We are set to receive athletes from the various Southwest states on Wednesday and Thursday,” Mr. Daini confirmed. “I am sure the athletes, coaches, and sports administrators will enjoy their stay in Osun. I wish everyone a safe journey to Osogbo.”

The event will culminate in the selection of teams who will represent the Southwest zone at the National Youth Games, continuing the tradition of excellence and competition that has come to define youth sports in Nigeria. The young athletes are set, the stage is ready, and the journey to Asaba begins in Osun.
