Nigeria’s Table Tennis Hopes Dashed as Quadri Aruna suffer early Exit from Olympics

Quadri Aruna

Nigeria’s hopes of a medal in table tennis at the 2024 Paris Olympics have been extinguished with the early exits of Quadri Aruna and Olajide Omotayo.

Both players were eliminated in the round of 64 of the men’s singles event. Omotayo suffered a 4-1 defeat to Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan, while Aruna was surprisingly beaten 4-3 by Romania’s Eduard Ionescu.

Aruna, who was seen as Nigeria’s best hope for a medal, held a commanding 3-0 lead but was unable to close out the match, allowing Ionescu to stage a remarkable comeback.

This marks a disappointing end to Nigeria’s table tennis campaign at the Paris Olympics.
