Enyimba of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) may have ended their first African Football League (AFL) season prematurely, but their involvement has been incredibly profitable as they received over One Billion naira.
Eight of the biggest names in African football, including the People’s Elephant, competed in the inaugural CAF and FIFA tournament for African clubs.
Originally an eight-time champion from Nigeria, the competition began as a 24-team pan-African tournament before Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca defeated them 4-0 on aggregate.
But Enyimba laughed all the way to the bank when he was paid an incredible $750,000 to play in the AFL’s inaugural season.
All competing clubs received substantial prize money from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the organization that created the $4 million AFL.
