2024 World Cup Qualifiers: Excitement in Ilorin as Awoniyi returns For Nottingham Forest

It was all joy and excitement for fans and football stakeholders in Kwara State as Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi shook off injury setback to return to the starting line up for his English Premiership side Nottingham Forest in their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The striker made his comeback from a groin problem at Anfield last weekend before making a full return starting in their 2-0 home win against Aston Villa.

Compatriots Olaoluwa Aina and Belgian Orel Johnson Mangala were on the score sheet to hand The Reds Tricky Trees their third premier league win of the season at the City Ground.

Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kwara State Chapter, Mallam Ayodeji Ismail said his return is a huge boost for the Super Eagles who are preparing for the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho later this Month.

“Good to have Awoniyi back, this is a huge for Nottingham Forest and for the Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho Month, we are extremely excited to have him back.

“Awoniyi’s presence in the squad against Lesotho and Zimbabwe will add value as well as results to the team”, he said.

FIFA accredited photojournalist, AbdulRahman Momoh said, “I was happy to see Taiwo Awoniyi return to action against Aston Villa on Sunday. I hope he fully recovers so that he can feature for the Super Eagles.

“Awoniyi is a dedicated and humble player who will go places. The people of Kwara are solidly behind him to succeed”.
