Nigeria’s sole representative on the continent, Rivers United, will play their home games in the CAF Confederations Cup at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
This decision was revealed on Tuesday as the governing body, CAF, released the list of stadiums approved to host games on the continent this season.
The Pride of Rivers finds themselves in the same group as Club Africain (Tunisia), Dream FC (Ghana), and APC Lobito (Angola).
This poses a significant challenge for the Port Harcourt side, as they will need to play their home games away from their fans.
This is due to the inability of the club’s stadium, The Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium, to meet the necessary requirements for hosting continental games.
Rivers United is determined to advance further in the tournament, aiming to overcome the setback of their previous quarterfinal loss to Young Africans of Tanzania, where they were defeated two goals to nil.
The team’s first home game is scheduled for the 26th of November against the Angolan side, APC Lobito.
