Ghana pulled off a shocking victory against Mali in their World Cup qualifier match in Bamako, emerging with a 2-1 win on Thursday evening.

The home side, the Eagles of Mali, took the lead in the first half’s stoppage time through Kamory Doumbia, putting the pressure on Ghana.

However, the Black Stars refused to be subdued. Ernest Nuamah equalized for Ghana in the 58th minute, restoring hope and setting the stage for a thrilling second half.

The hero for Ghana was Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew, who netted the winning goal in the dying moments of the match (94th minute). His clinical finish secured all three points for the Black Stars.

This dramatic victory propels Ghana to second place in Group I with six points, level on points with leaders Comoros (who have a game in hand).

Ghana’s resilience and Ayew’s last-gasp heroics will be the talk of the town, leaving Mali to regroup and fight for qualification in upcoming matches.
