Sporting Lagos Academy has become the first Nigerian club to win the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
In the ninth minute, they broke through FC Tokyo’s defense, and Yusuf Abdullahi slotted in a shot beyond the reach of the Japanese goalkeeper.

Ten minutes later, the Nigerians extended their lead. Babatunde Akomolede launched a rocket from outside the penalty area that soared into the top right corner of the net. By halftime, the Lagos-based side had a clear advantage.
In the second half, the team continued to be creative in attack and solid in defense. In the 55th minute, they sealed the game when Lucky John pounced and tapped in a rebound. Sporting Lagos extended their lead once more, and the final score was set at 4-0.

Sporting Lagos Babatnde Akomolade wins MVP
Sporting Lagos, Babatunde Akomolede was awarded the MVP of the final.
He said, “I just tried to use the opportunity I had, and it turned out I used it well, says Babatunde Akomolede about his goal.”
