Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has pledged unwavering support for the upcoming Federation of African University Games (FASU) to be hosted in the country.
During a courtesy visit by the organizing committee, the minister assured that the ministry would do everything within its power to ensure the games’ success. He expressed concern about the decline of NUGA games in Nigeria and urged the committee to conduct a thorough review to identify the reasons for its past success.
Senator Owan Enoh emphasized the importance of high-performance centers in fostering sports excellence and urged for collaboration between the ministry and the education sector to revitalize school sports.
Dr. Mohammed Bawa, President and Chairman of the FASU Games organizing committee, praised the minister’s grassroots-driven vision for sports administration. He appealed for the minister’s support in providing essential training equipment for the Nigerian team and requested a waiver of the mandatory visa fee to encourage broader participation from African universities.
With the minister’s pledge of support, the FASU Games in Nigeria are poised to be a memorable event, showcasing the talent and potential of African university athletes.
