Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics after suffering three consecutive defeats in Group C.
The team’s performance has sparked a mix of reactions from fans and analysts.
Former Nigerian beach soccer player Abu Azeez pointed to a lack of a defensive midfielder as a long-standing issue affecting the team’s performance.
“For a while now, Super Falcons hasnt been playing with a proper DM, those that has followed the team for long knows this, and this has been affecting the team for a while,” he said.
However, other fans like Shafii Hamidu and Femi Farawe expressed support for the team, praising their effort and urging them to learn from the experience.
Hamidu said, “Forget the score, Nigerian Super Falcons have a very good team and have tried their best. We are happy with their performance. Better luck next time.”
Melli Anthony, on the other hand, called for individual and collective improvement, highlighting the team’s significant decline in performance.
Despite the disappointment of the early exit, there’s a general consensus that the Super Falcons should not be overly condemned.
Irene, a fan, acknowledged the tough competition at the Olympic level and encouraged the team to learn from the experience.
The Super Falcons will now shift their focus to qualifying for the next African Women’s Cup of Nations as they look to rebuild and improve for future competitions.
