Chelsea set to make final bid for Osimhen

Chelsea is poised to make a formal bid for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, marking a significant step towards potentially bringing the Nigerian forward to Stamford Bridge.

Speculation surrounding Osimhen’s future has been rife throughout the summer, with concerns arising about his potential retention at Napoli. However, Chelsea’s concrete offer signals their determination to secure his signature.

The 25-year-old striker, who enjoyed a stellar season, finishing as Serie A’s top scorer and playing a pivotal role in Napoli’s Scudetto triumph, has a substantial release clause of approximately €120 million. Despite his impressive form, few clubs have been willing to meet Napoli’s asking price.

While PSG initially showed interest, they have since withdrawn from the race. Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli also expressed interest but encountered difficulties in meeting Osimhen’s expectations.

Chelsea, however, appears to be the leading contender. Sources suggest that the Blues are prepared to test Napoli’s resolve with their upcoming bid, which is expected to be below the €120 million release clause. Napoli’s stance has softened due to their challenges in offloading the striker and Osimhen’s rejection of a recent €70 million offer from Al-Ahli.

Should Chelsea and Napoli reach an agreement, the next obstacle will be convincing Osimhen to accept a lower wage than initially demanded. Chelsea is reportedly considering a performance-based contract to align his compensation with his on-field contributions.

The potential acquisition of Osimhen would be a significant boost for Chelsea, providing them with a proven goalscorer to strengthen their squad.
