Janne Andersson confirms talks with NFF for Super Eagles Job

Janne Andersson, the former Swedish national team coach, has confirmed that he is in talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the vacant Super Eagles coaching position.

Andersson, who left the Swedish national team in November 2023, has been linked to the Super Eagles job.

The Super Eagles have been without a coach since the resignation of Finidi George.

The former Ajax star, left his role as Nigeria’s coach just a month after being appointed, following a disastrous start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The ex-winger’s two official matches in charge of the Super Eagles ended in a draw against South Africa and a shock defeat to Benin Republic, leaving Nigeria’s World Cup dreams in tatters.

In an interview with Swedish news outlet Expressen, Andersson expressed his interest in the role and appreciation for the NFF’s interest in him.

“I can confirm that I have had a dialogue with the Nigeria Football Federation,” he said.

“It’s a huge footballing nation so I’m extremely flattered to be in the running to be their next national team coach.”

“Dialogue is ongoing and I don’t really want to say more than that. I have been in this industry for so long and know that things can happen in different ways. So we’ll see what happens in the future,” Andersson added.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will open camp on September 1 for their AFCON qualifiers against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 7.
