How Gateway United run riot, hit four past Warri Wolves in historic win

Gateway United unleashed a second-half onslaught to secure a dominant win over Warri Wolves at MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta in Matchday 13 of the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League campaign.

Keeping their lineup unchanged from the previous draw against Solution FC in Anambra, the team entered halftime with the score tied.

But after an electrifying pep talk from coach Samson Omiponle, the players came out firing. Five minutes into the second half, Odusina Sunkanmi latched onto a tantalizing cross from Babatunde Damilare to break the deadlock.

Moments later, Babatunde Taofeek mesmerized the Warri Wolves’ defense with his skillful footwork, calmly finishing to extend the lead.

The provider turned scorer as Damilare Babatunde capitalized on a goalkeeper’s spill to increase the advantage to a 3 goal lead.

With just 12 minutes remaining, Falolu Wasiu added the cherry on top with a breathtaking free-kick from 25 yards out, aiming for the top corner.

With this commanding performance, Gateway United extends their unbeaten streak to 5 games.

Gateway United will next be on the road against Trade Safe at Mobolaji Stadium on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Coach Samson Omiponle believes there’s more to come from his side.

“An emphatic win it was. I said it in Anambra that we would consolidate on the draw. The boys executed the game plan well enough particularly in the second half”

“We are away next in Lagos. We will double our efforts. Our plan is to keep winning. There’s definitely more to come. We will repay the confidence reposed in us” he concluded
