We are going to Abidjan to win the AFCON, We want to do it again – Super Eagle Captain

By Isiaq Ibrahim

The Captain for Super Eagle Nigeria, Ahmed Musa has boasted that the club will win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON.

The AFCON which was supposed to hold in 2023 was later postponed by CAF from January 13th to February 11th 2023, slated to kick-off in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Following the Super Eagle summary performance in AFCON, they have consistently and usually been excelling in, and also picked as favourites to win it every time. The team has only won the Cup three times. The Super Eagles have finished 3rd place 15 times since 1976.

According to history, the team has had difficulty in qualifying for the Cup. They have been banned once, withdrawn four times, and didn’t qualify as 2012, 2015, and 2017.

Interestingly, the Super Eagles have outpaced most of their African counterparts every single time they’ve qualified. In fact, the last time they were knocked out at the quarterfinals was in 2000.
