The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has expressed the disappointment of the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the performance of the Super Eagles in their last game against Guinea Bissau.

Senator Enoh was speaking to the players via a Zoom call during a meeting with the players and officials at camp. He said, “One of the reasons why I am having this conversation with you is because of the chat I had with Mr. President when I went to the Villa. I went to the Villa for something else, and the President cornered me and said, ‘We managed to qualify, John.’ I said, ‘Your Excellency, that is how we will keep on going until we win the tournament.’

“And he said, ‘Tell our players that I wasn’t too impressed with their last match, but now that they are off the group stage, they are going to impress me more and more. What that means is that the President is practically watching all your matches. The President is urging you to go all out in your next match against Cameroon…'” He further urged the players to listen to their coach, Jose Peseiro, be more focused, and, if possible, do away with the distractions of social media, which might affect their psyche one way or the other, especially from comments from angry fans.

The captain of the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa, while responding on behalf of the team, appreciated the minister for their support and also urged the President to come and support the Eagles live in Cote d’Ivoire. The captain, who is yet to have a taste of playing in the ongoing AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, however, assured the President, Minister, and Nigerians that they will put in their best to ensure that the Super Eagles don’t only play the final but lift the cup.
