Heartbreak as El Kanemi Warriors knocked out from CAF Confederation Cup

In a disappointing turn of events for Nigerian football, Dadje FC of Benin Republic has eliminated Nigeria’s representatives, El Kanemi Warriors, from the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dadje FC secured a 2-1 victory over El Kanemi Warriors today, advancing with a 3-2 aggregate score. The two teams had previously played to a 1-1 draw in Ikenne a week ago. El Kanemi Warriors, the Nigerian Federation Cup winners, had hoped to overturn their deficit from the first leg, where they were narrowly defeated 2-1 despite a late equalizer.

This result marks the first Nigerian team to be eliminated from a CAF club competition this season.

In related news, Benin Republic recently recorded their first victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a 2026 World Cup qualifier. The two sides are set to meet again on September 7 in Uyo for the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying tournament.
