NWFL: Bayelsa Queens, Sunshine Queens Shared Spoils in Akure

Sunshine Queens and Bayelsa Queens football clubs battled to a 1-1 draw in Matchday 1 of the NWFL Premiership at the Akure Township Stadium.

After 18 minute Suliat Ajibade put the Owena Ladies ahead from the penalty spot when Bayelsa Queens Captain Angela Michael brought down a player in the penalty area to end the first half one-nil in favour of the hosts team.

On resumption for the second half, Sunshine Queens were looking to increase the tally but, it was the Prosperity Girls from Yenagoa that equalized in the 62nd minute through Itimi Mercy, to end hostilities one goal apiece.

‘Our initial plan was to get all maximum points in Akure, but met a different Sunshine Queens’, technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens Domo Okara said.

‘We were frustrated by the pattern of the Akure Landladies as they used the delay tactics to disrupt our game plan’.

Okara added that they will go back home and work on the lapses witnessed in the game to come out better in their next match.

‘This is a new Sunshine Queens, Bayelsa Queens had defeated us many times before but we gave them a shocker today as we were able to hold them to a score draw and we are pleased with it’ Abimbola Oladimeji Sunshine Queens Coach said.

Bayelsa Queens will next Wednesday 22 November, 2023 welcome debutant Ekiti Queens, to the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, for Matchday 2 of the NWFL Premiership.
