Bayelsa Queens To Stay In BOWFT Applauds Organizers For Intervention

BOWFT: Bayelsa Queens chairman happy to advance to final

The management of Bayelsa Queens have decided that the club will be staying at the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) following their earlier stance of exiting the preseason championship.

Speaking exclusively to our correspondence, the chairman of Bayelsa Queens, Pastor Robin Apreala applauded the organizers of BOWFT for their intervention following the row with Delta Queens over players registration and promised the club won’t leave the tournament until Friday hoping the issue at hand will be resolved.

The club chairman added, Edo is their second home and the people of Edo love Bayelsa and the state have been fruitful to the club considering winning the NWFL Premiership Super Six in Benin in 2022 and going ahead to win the Wafu B Champions League in Ivory Coast, becoming the first Nigeria side to clinch the third place at the CAF Champions League, winning the Aiteo NFF Cup in 2021 and the first edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament.

The Sport administrator stated, the Prosperity Girls won’t walk out on Edo people as he believes the matter will be resolved by the NWFL as he made known that negotiation have started with Delta Queens since the fourth of October but they haven’t responded.

“For the respect we have for Her Excellency, the first Lady of Edo State, Mrs Betsy Obaseki and for her stand towards the promotion and progression of the Girl Child and equally for the intervention of well meaning Nigerians including the Chairperson of the NWFL, Mrs Nkechi Obi, we have decided to stay till Friday afternoon hoping that by then, the matter will be resolved.

“We are still bent on the fact that, it’s a Preseason tournament and every player can play for a club of her choice.

“Edo is our second home, the people of Edo love Bayelsa and it’s here in Edo that we won the 2021 NFF Aiteo Cup, NWFL Premiership Super Six in 2022, which led us to win the Wafu B Champions League in Cote D’Ivoire and the first edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT), so we have massive support in Edo.

“We won’t walk out on the Edo people, so we are believing that whatever problem Delta Queens have with Bayelsa Queens concerning the status of those players will be resolved by the NWFL during the registration.

“We have started negotiation with the CEO of Delta Queens since the fourth of October at the NWFL AGA, we have opened discussion with them and we have equally written two letters officially to them requesting for the clearance of this two players and up till date, there have not been any official response from Delta Queens regarding those players.

“Delta Queens should not drag the good people of Edo to an event that doesn’t have anything to do with them. The people of Edo are very good people and the BOWFT is a tournament cherished by people all over the World. Therefore, nothing should be done by anybody either threat that they are pulling out if those two players are allowed to play for Bayelsa.

“Those two players will play for Bayelsa Queens because it’s the choice of those players, when we get to the NWFL, the matter will be resolved there since they are yet to give us any official comment.”
